How to bequest

Talk to us

There are a number of ways of leaving a bequest to Scripture Union in your will...

A specific gift - This is the most common form of bequest. This could take the form of a specific amount of money, property, art, antiques, etc.

The residue of your estate - After family and friends are taken care of, Scripture Union receives everything remaining in your estate.

A percentage of your estate - After all other bequests have been made, Scripture Union receives a share, as decided by you, of what remains in your estate.

Your bequest could be for the general running of Scripture Union in New Zealand, and thus able to be used where most needed; or for a specific ministry.

Whatever you decide, your gift will be gratefully received and effectively used.

If you are about to make a will ...

... and you want to include a gift to Scripture Union, then an example of the wording which you could use is:

I give the sum of $_____ * free of all duties to Scripture Union in New Zealand(Inc.) for the general purposes of the Society. I declare that the receipt of the secretary or treasurer of the Society shall be sufficient discharge to my Trustee(s) for such a gift.

If you already have a will ...

... and want to make a bequest to Scripture Union, you can either make a new will and include a gift to Scripture Union or add a 'codicil' to your existing will. An example of a codicil could be:

This is the (first, second, third, etc) codicil of the last Will of (name) of (place of residence) (Occupation) which Will bears the (date) ____ day of ____ (month), (year).
I want to add to my Will and insert the following clause: (No. of clause) I give to Scripture Union in New Zealand (Inc.) the sum of $____ for the general purposes of the Society and in all other respects I confirm my said Will.

Please contact your solicitor if you have any questions about making a will or adding a codicil to your existing will.
