As part of Pray Day 07.08.09 we have Pray for a School Cards available from our online store.

These packs contain 20 prayer cards and 1 top tips leaflet with ideas on using the cards to mobilise Christians to pray for their local schools.

Schools shape lives and it's vital that Christians are connected in with and praying for those involved. These packs are designed for churches to get the whole church, small groups or youth groups praying for schools.

These packs are $4 each and contain 20 cards in a pack.

CHILDSAFE UPDATE!

The SafeHere Trust has been established by Scripture Union New Zealand and is a registered charity. It has a close ongoing relationship with ChildSafe Limited to promote and provide materials, systems and service, as applicable in the New Zealand context, to organisations in all areas of society, not just the church sector.

The principal purpose of the SafeHere trust is the promotion of the prevention or the control of behavior that is harmful or abusive to children, young people or other natural persons in any organisation.

It relies on two sources of income:

• Funds generated from the sale of ChildSafe Packages and Publications.

• Donations and grants from groups who value what the work does.

Scripture Union acknowledges the 2009 Community Education Programme Grant given by Ansvar Insurance towards the costs of establishing the SafeHere Trust in New Zealand.

HELLO OSCAR

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Scripture Union has achieved OSCAR (Out of School Care and Recreation) approval status with Child, Youth and Family (CYFs) for our primary age camps.

There are three major benefits of being an OSCAR provider:

• Subsidies from Work and Income NZ to help low income families pay camp fees.
• CYFs will be able to send more children to our camps.
• Access to up to $16,000 of Government funding annually for one series of camps (four camps run over one year).

Our very first application for funding was successful with the Ministry of Social Development granting us $15,750. This enables us to increase the level of training for our leaders as well as pay for first aid and other specialised training. It will also help towards purchasing resources for camp which are not covered by camp fees alone. Funding will also be set aside to pay for staff time and expenses and subsidising fees for team members.

This is a major development in our children’s camping programme, one that we see may also be possible for some of our teenage adventure camps (OSCAR extends to Intermediate age children as well).
