Profile: Ben Necklen
Adventure is a powerful median to share the gospel and learn more about ourselves. I will be working three days a week from Christchurch taking over from Diana Johnston in the South Island Camps training role. I am passionate about adventure and seeing young people grow to know God through the outdoors. Scripture Union has a long heritage in camping and I look forward to continuing that in the South!
Role Profile
My role will involve helping to co-ordinate and run camps South Island wide. The initial focus will be on building up the existing volunteer networks and up skilling volunteers to continue their good work.
Personal Profile
I have been working in the outdoor industry for 6 years after completing a diploma in outdoor education and a diploma in teaching. Currently, I am finishing a degree by correspondence through Massey University, majoring in Geography and minoring in Geology. I also work part-time for some local schools and tertiary institutions helping with their outdoor education programs.
I am married to Philippa, who is a youth worker for our church, Hornby Presbyterian. We have been married for 4 months and love getting out in a sea kayak on multi day trips. We currently live in an 11 metre bus which we have converted over the last few years. I have taken on various roles with Scripture Union including, study leader, camp cook and team member. I have always been passionate about seeing young people develop and know God through outdoor education and look forward to giving back to young people through my role with Scripture Union.
