Profile: Paul Martell
I spent 21 years running an engineering company – and its marketing - and then 21 years working at World Vision, 14 years in marketing and the remainder as a programmes officer. The later role involved 12 months living in PNG running the WV Pacific office. I was on the Scripture Union bookshops board many years ago. Coming back to Scripture Union has returned me to my marketing and relationships roots. I love this role as Relationships Manager.
Role Profile
My role in Scripture Union is:
- To maintain a strong funding base to enable the growth of our ministry
- To build strong relationships with our supporters
- To care for the production of Scripture Union magazines and publications
- To ensure the ministry of Scripture Union is understood across the wider Christian community
Personal Profile
I became a Christian as a young man. I grew up in a secure Christian home for which I remain so grateful. I am married with four children (two married) and seven grandchildren. As a child, I attended Scripture Union beach missions (called CSSM in my day) as did my children (called Scripture Union holiday programmes in their day). I also attended the Titirangi Crusader Camp twice as a high school student. I was unable to undertake the Engineering degree I so badly wanted, so set up a small manufacturing company. I also sold heavy equipment from Europe. I sold this company 22 years ago and joined World Vision where I served for 21 years. I am so grateful to God for my life and for the capacity He has given me to serve Him during it.
