Surge Clubs
Surge is a fun interactive lunchtime Christian programme for 11-13 year olds in schools. It is voluntary and students choose for themselves whether or not they come along with parental permission.
Surge aims to help young people to be able to understand the Christian faith, but in no way does it try to force, manipulate or coerce a young person into becoming a Christian. Surge should be a contribution to the school, and compliment the school.
Surge is a programme relevant for young people who have no knowledge of the gospel, and also for those who do. With this in mind, the programme needs to be strongly biblical, but fun and exciting. Remember, Surge is run at lunchtime, therefore try not to make this time another school lesson.
Intermediate students are a field of opportunity, they are open to receive new ideas and work through challenging issues. Relevance to the intermediate age Is vital within the Surge model.
Who Leads SURGE?
Surge is led by local church youth leaders, teachers, and other adults. It is run by a team of leaders who are responsible for the activities of the group.
A person who wishes to become a Surge leader is required to;
- Have a living faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.
- Pray and read the Bible regularly
- Be involved in the life of their church
- Accept the ‘Aims, belief and Working Principles of Scripture Union’.
- Go through the application procedure including a police check.
- Prepare thoroughly for all activities, care for students and be sensitive about public relations.
- Be involved in Scripture Union training activities.
- Pray for the school
During the programmes leaders can utilise the young people to help out and run parts of the programme to develop student ownership and leadership skills in the young people.
